About CAP

The members of Westchester Hudson Composite Squadron welcome you to the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). CAP can be tremendously rewarding and enjoyable for any person interested in search and rescue or other emergency services efforts regardless of your background and experience. As a member of CAP you can become involved in any or all of the facets of search and rescue including Airborne Search, Ground Search, Administration, Support, Aerospace Education, and the Cadet Program. The information in the following pages is a step-by-step description of how to get involved in the various activities CAP has to offer.

The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer organization that is an official auxiliary of the Air Force. The mission of CAP as a whole is to voluntarily use its resources to:

• meet emergencies,
• encourage aerospace education of the general public,
• motivate young men and women to ideals of leadership and service through education and training.

The Westchester Hudson Composite Squadron is involved in all of the above missions. We are a Composite squadron, which means we are composed of both Officers (adults) as well as Cadets (young men and women 18 and under). Our meetings are open to all members and visitors who wish to attend.

The officer program is primarily oriented toward Search and Rescue. One major area of interest is in the air search aspect, encompassing a great deal of emphasis on flight activities. This automatically generates interest in aerospace education and attracts aspiring and active pilots. Other aspects of Search and Rescue involve ground search. We are looking for members who are interested in being trained in technical rescue, radio direction finding, survival, and a myriad of other Search and Rescue support functions.
